Not long after, a giant appeared before her and offered her a golden cucumber seed. The giant promised her a child, but with one condition: she had to give the child back to him when she turned sixteen. Desperate for a child, Mbok Srini agreed to the giant’s condition.

She planted the seed in her garden, and it grew into a large golden cucumber. When she sliced it open, she found a beautiful baby girl inside. She named the baby Timun Mas, which means “Golden Cucumber.”

3. The Story of Sangkuriang

Long ago, in West Java, there lived a beautiful woman named Dayang Sumbi. She was known for her beauty and intelligence.

One day, while she was weaving, her spindle fell to the ground. Too lazy to pick it up, she swore that if a man picked it up for her, she would marry him. If a woman did, she would make her a sister.

To her surprise, a dog named Tumang came and retrieved the spindle. True to her word, Dayang Sumbi married Tumang, who was actually a cursed god in disguise.

From this marriage, they had a son named Sangkuriang. Sangkuriang grew up to be a strong and energetic young man, but he did not know that Tumang was his father.

One day, when Sangkuriang was hunting in the forest, he accidentally killed Tumang after he failed to catch any game.

When Dayang Sumbi found out that Tumang had been killed, she was furious and struck Sangkuriang on the head, causing a scar. She banished him from their home.
